Macomb County Recycling Program

Most communities in Macomb County have recycling curbside pickup service available to residential homes.
Please contact your local city or township offices to see how you can start recycling today!
Listed below are the different items that can be recycled through the curbside recycling program in Macomb County.
All materials must be cleaned and uncontaminated (i.e. no food).

Accepted Items for Curbside Pickup are:

  • Mixed Paper and Cardboard: All parts of the newspaper, magazines, catalogs, advertisements, phone books, office paper, junk mail, and white or colored paper are accepted. All corrugated cardboard & paperboard (including pizza boxes) are also accepted with the paper. Place paper products in a paper bag on top of or beside your recycling bin.
  • Plastic: All plastic marked with a recycle symbol with numbers 1-7 are accepted. Plastic bags are also accepted. Antifreeze containers, motor oil containers or Styrofoam will not be accepted.
  • Glass Bottles and Jars: Clear glass only. No window, mirror, light bulb, ceramic or dish glass is accepted. No broken glass. Lids & labels are OK. Curbside pickup only.
  • Metal: All metal cans, foil, aluminum trays are accepted. Please clean and flatten if possible. Labels are OK. No aerosols.

 

More Recycling Information

  • Batteries: Household batteries are accepted at your local home improvement store. Automotive batteries can be returned to the store where it was purchased.
  • Household Hazardous Waste: Items such as oil based paint, turpentine, pesticides, herbicides, household oven cleaners, drain cleaners, pool chlorine, gasoline, used motor oil, antifreeze, kerosene, aerosol cans, paint thinner, deck sealer, nail polish, adhesives, medicines, and mercury containing devices should not be put in garage or poured down a sink or toilet.
